Question of the Month – June 2018 Edition

A new Question of the Month has arrived by the lovely Kim over at Later Levels, who has taken the chance to let Luna from GamersUnitedGG to set up this month’s challenge.

She ask the simple question of: “You are a new villain trying to make a name for yourself so you have decided to take over the Mushroom Kingdom, Green Hill Zone and Hyrule. Who are you and how will you defeat each hero and take over?”

Normally I would have come out earlier with an answer but the mind was always set to blank. Nevertheless, I shall try to see if the answer cannot be at least a little satisfying this time around. The great news is there’s no limit to the amount of words being used, which means I can take the time to write a little different.

Sit back, relax and enjoy my answer to this Question of the Month!

What makes me a villain? You will know soon enough.

I guess it has now been about 5 years since it all began. Wasn’t really much though, just a simple conversation between my friend Luna and me at the pub where we usually just talked about our hobbies, mostly video games but suddenly she asked me if I had the power to take over Hyrule, Mushroom Kingdom and whatever the world of the blue hedgehog was called…what would I do?

The beer got caught in my windpipe and nervously laughing while coughing, my answer was “I don’t know, why do you ask?” With a simple smile she asked the question again and after thinking it through, the answer was fairly simple to which Link, Mario as well as Sonic would fail because their character type weren’t suited for this.

Before leaving (and letting me pay for the couple of drinks), she took out a notebook with some weird inscriptions on, jotted something down, ripped the page out and handed it to me as she says “good luck” on the way out the door.

Well, a couple of nights later everything had been prepared. I put down the paper in the middle of the floor, read out loud what was written and then…nothing. Confused I looked around as something specific should have happened and let them arrive.

With a sigh I turned around, almost touching my setup as a light opened up behind me. Looking over my shoulder there stands three portals showing three distinct worlds one would know by heart. Only a few seconds later three silhouettes had entered my living room and they were a bit confused as to where they had ended up from their own.

“Greetings players and welcome, I know the journey must have been hard but you are the warriors needed to save your worlds from destruction of a menace who cannot be stopped, one who have taken countless of worlds into its collection and ridden the heroes of all they know. Please…would you help me?”

It didn’t take more to make Link, Sonic and Mario looking at me with fiery eyes as they with a resounding “YES” (Link could only emote it though) accepted my quest with no hesitation or questions to be asked.

A smile of joy came across my face, “Thank you heroes, if you then please would take a seat. Everything has been prepared for your arrival”. I gesture to my table where three sheets of paper, three boxes of dice and a map with three figures plus one hidden in cloth was standing at the ready.

Quite confused they look back at me, not understanding the situation. To which I sit down at the end of the table, folding my hands together and say; “Well you accepted my quest so now here comes my challenge, if you can beat me at my game. Your worlds are safe…but if you lose…then they become a part of my collection.”

With an arm I show them well over a hundred what seems to be like snow globes, each showing the world or a certain part of a world within from many different franchises.

Once again I turn to the three heroes, “Here’s the thing though. You are always welcome to leave but I don’t know if you can make it” and with that said, the portals disappear in the background. “Now isn’t that quite sad… So, do you accept my challenge?”

They all looked at me and nodded before sitting down at the table, ready for whatever may come. “Here’s the thing, you are heroes trapped within my dungeon and the only way you can come out is to defeat my one monster. Any questions?”

Nothing came from any of them, it was like they understood everything that was going to happen.

“Then let the game begin” and with one move I unveil the cloth from the monster prepared to face the heroes.

Nobody expects the Beholder

It didn’t take many rounds of failed dice rolls, mismanaged positioning and irritation between the three players, before I came out victories in the end.

What makes me a villain? I took everything they loved and left them with nothing within a simple bet

If you enjoyed it, then head over to the main hub for some great answers from other bloggers within the WordPress community. Also if are interested in some more then I have written a couple for previous Questions of the Month, but do let me know what you would have gone with.

Stay Cozy and have a nice day!

  1. This is great! I really liked the portals and the game of chance. It’s a plausible way of defeating characters that are innately good. Thanks for participating!
